Our Adam

Ever since the site launched, we have displayed the following message in this box. "City striker Adam Stansfield is currently fighting bowel cancer. Thousands of Grecians and football fans everywhere are thinking of you Adam. We're with you, and your family, every step of the way." Adam died on 10 August. Adam will remain in our hearts forever, and we will remain with his family every step of the way. RIP Adam x

WorldNet report

At the huge WorldNet football tournament in Leeds on 24 and 25 July, the Exiles side matched last year's effort of reaching the last sixteen.

We did really well in the group stage winning our first two games 2-1 against Southampton, then 1-0 against Swindon, before complacency set in after being 2-0 up againt Stockport and eventually drawing 2-2. Enough to top the group though.

The Exiles beat the much fancied Fulham 2-1 in the last 32 (they survived from the so-called group of death) after going 2-0 up and counter-attacking all the way Germany stylee. We eventually lost 1-0 to Peterborough in the last 16. Having conceded in own goal, we couldn't break through and were bitterly disappointing to exit the competition at the hands of arguably weaker oppostiion than Fulham and Southampton whom we had previously beaten.

Next year. There's always next year...

2010/11 plans

We're eagerly awaiting our fixtures for 2010/11, which we'll post as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we're hard at work getting ready for the new season, with training every Thursday plus additional sessions on Tuesday 3 August and Tuesday 10 August.

On the admin front, our London FA paperwork, cup entry forms and insurance arrangements have all been sorted. We are, however, awaiting confirmation of whether we can continue to play home games at the Civil Service Sports Ground. We've had a verbal yes for both As and Bauys teams, but with chu-chu-chu-changes behind the scenes at the CSSC, we're waiting for confirmation.

Civil Service Sports Ground

The home ground for both our sides is a short walk from Barnes Bridge station on the Waterloo to Hounslow line (cross the bridge over the Thames and you're pretty much there). There's more directions for drivers and a map showing the walk from Barnes Bridge here. Alternatively, it's a longish walk of a little over a mile from Turnham Green station on the District Line; buses E3 and 272 from outside the station could take you part of the way. A little further still, you could walk from Gunnersbury station which is also served by the London Overground (former North London Line) linking it to, among others, West Hampstead, Camden, Highbury & Islington, Dalston Junction and Stratford.
