Who's the top dog in South West football? Frankly, there's only one answer from the history books, and we don't like the look of it at all!
The bottom line is that Plymouth have been the highest placed Devon and Somerset team for 76 of the past 85 seasons. Torquay have managed it three times to City's five, although it wasn't until 1978 that we finally outgunned the greenies. In 2012 Yeovil finished top of the quartet for the first time.

The position in brackets - e.g. (1st) highlighted in gold and (2nd) highlighted in silver - is the ranking among the three or four South West clubs.
The other figure is the league position for that season in the division indicated. 'Ch' is Championship or Old Division 2, and likewise 'L1' and 'L2' include both current and previous forms of League One and League 2. 'BS' is Blue Square Premier or Conference and '3s' is the old regionalised Division 3 South.
