Our Adam

Ever since the site launched, we have displayed the following message in this box. "City striker Adam Stansfield is currently fighting bowel cancer. Thousands of Grecians and football fans everywhere are thinking of you Adam. We're with you, and your family, every step of the way." Adam died on 10 August. Adam will remain in our hearts forever, and we will remain with his family every step of the way. RIP Adam x

Fund News

We email 1931 Fund news and updates to members of the Fund. You can read some of these updates below.

August 2011 - As we prepare for the new season, 42 of our existing members are still going strong, with half a dozen or so hopefully keen to renew.  We expect to pick up perhaps as many as 10 new members, so we expect to be close to our budgeted target of 53 members in order to generate the £1,000 a month that we need this year. If you'd like to join us, please get in touch.

July 2011 - Former Southampton midfielder Callum McNish has joined City as our 1931 Fund player for the 2011/12 season.

July 2011 - After appeals on Exeweb and in the Echo, the 1931 Fund is delighted to welcome around ten new members. Their additional support means we've been able to pledge £15,000 to Exeter City for the 2011/12 season. With the club making it clear that Tis's budget is somewhat stretched, we think our money is going to prove especially valuable.

June 2011 - A bit of a tweak to our plans. ECFC have agreed to accept £7,000 from the 1931 Fund in 2010/11, taking our payment for James Norwood's two years to £17,000. We will be able to carry the balance of over £3,000 forward to 2011/12, thus pledging at least £13,000 towards City's number 31 in the 2011/12 season. We do, however, really need new members willing to shell out £19 a month to help fund another exciting young talent in Tis's squad.

June 2011 - We've had a lovely thank you card from James Norwood. It's copied below. Really hope he goes on to make Tis look a fool for letting him leave us - after all, Tis has to be wrong about something one day! All the best to the bauy.

May 2011 - James Norwood was released by Exeter City after almost two years at the club. With a debut at Elland Road, first team appearances in both his seasons at City, goals in friendlies and for the reserve team and lively loan spells too, we thought we got value from our James. Good luck to our first number 31 wherever he plays his football next.

26/2/11 - There was a two page article about the 1931 Fund in the City v Hartlepool programme. You can read it here.

26/2/11 - The 1931 Fund has paid £7,000 to Exeter City to cover the total cost of James Norwood from June 2010 to January 2011 inclusive. We did this on the pitch at the Park before the City v Hartlepool game. Pictured below are 1931 Fund Members together with a few family (broadly L to R) Ed Hyland, Alistair Yates, Simon Mears, Simon Brown, Andrew Long, Pauline Brown, David Crockford, Rosalind Lee, Alan Crockford, Neil Hardy, Ellie Crockford, Denise Watts, James Featherstone (with cheque), Julian Tagg (ECFC), Adam Henley, Nick Padget, Issy Padget (back to camera!), Trevor Arnold, Danny Burton, Kieran McCarthy, Andy McCarthy. Ben Long was also there somewhere...

29/12/10 - Halfway through the financial year, and we're bang on target with just over £6,000 received in donations between July and December. See the Fund Finances section for full figures.

25/12/10 - Happy Christmas to all our members. We'll be popping our little 2010/11 gift in the post to our members shortly, thanks to further sponsorship from Howard Financial Services of Exeter. You can call them on
01392 214444 for high quality, independent finanical advice.

7/11/10 - We've updated the Finances section of this web site to show donations received in September and October. Our new total of donations held is £4,504.60 - plus, of course, the £10,000 paid to City last season.

2/11/10 - James Norwood started in the illness hit City side at Brighton. It was good to see our bauy in action and looking lively too. (PS: Sorry. We should have told you that his loan spell at Forest Green had come to an end. Many apologies).
